Eugene O'Neill's play Hughie returns to Broadway in a new production starring Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker. Whitaker makes his Broadway debut as Erie Smith, a down-on-his-luck gambler in 1928 New York. He returns late at night to the low-rent hotel he's been living in, starting a long conversation with the new clerk. Erie is mourning not only his gambling losses, but also the clerk's predecessor (the titular Hughie), mainly because he feels like his luck turned after Hughie's death. Tony winner Frank Wood co-stars as the clerk, and Tony winner Michael Grandage directs.
